“Compass Rose” is a very well-built gaff-rigged ketch, designed by Laurent Giles and built at a shipyard in Southampton in 1998.
New engine installed in 2021 when almost the entire drivetrain was replaced with new through-hulls, a new propeller, and a muffler. The engine has only approximately 50 hours of operation. A fine long-distance cruising boat.
The boat was commissioned by Max Monsarrat and completed in 1998. Max Monsarrat is the son of author Nicholas Monsarrat, who wrote the book “The Cruel Sea.” She was named after a destroyer in the book. Max had ash trees from his own property cut down to craft the boat’s interior. Max’s wife was active in the church, and the boat is therefore adorned with certain details from the church. Newly painted hull, superstructure, and bottom in 2023. Mast taken down, painted, and inspected in the summer of 2024. Engine serviced in 2024.
